Yakka

The yakka was designed for those with limited storage space for their kayak. The principe is similar to other semi rigid, folding boats: it can be folded and stored in a small space.

On the water, the Yakka is a high performance kayak that glides along on its rigid hull and provides a paddling experience that approximates that of standard rigid-form kayaks.

Again I had difficulty with the skimpy instructions.. The pump tip I was given would not inflate the top. . The pump tip was supposed to come off but mine was definately of molded constructiion and there was nothing to come off..... I used ithe kayak uninflated anyway.. I figure water sports are all about getting wet.. Without the bouyant top had difficulty getting in.. fortunately the water is warm.. ... Still haven't figured out how the seat attaches, The kids and I will have fun with it though. Even without the top it handles well on flat water.

Its a nice option if you like the idea of portability. Easy set up and glides nicely on calm rivers and steady ocean waters. The only drawback is that water enters kayak and you'll be riding with a wet butt all the time.

I was very impressed with the performance of the Yakka, found it to be very stable with good directional ability. NJ

Love it. Had the same trouble as Bruce but BIC replaced it with a newer model FOC. Early ones had problems which have been eliminated. Very stable and tracks well.

I had the same experience as Bruce but I contacted BIC direct who informed me that there had been problems with early models. They arranged a swap over to a new one and I am delighted. Tracks well and is stable. Easy to transport and set up is less than 5 minutes.

I bought two Bic Yakka folding kayaks from REI just after Christmas of 2005. Just recently got a chance to put them in the water for the first time on my wife's birthday. I was not impressed. Paddled out from the shore and water was bubbling up from where the two halfs joined. Went back to shore and made sure everything was as tight as I could make it. My wife and I went out again and water was coming in again. I prefer the water on the outside of the boat rather than the inside, so decided to return them to REI. Thankfully REI has a exceptional and generous return policy. Both my wife and I had high hopes for these BIC folding kayaks. This excursion was to be a birthday present for my wife. We were disappointed. The directions included with the kayaks were very skimpy; therefore, it is possible that I missed something. If so I would like to know what. Of course, we didn't get a chance to try the BIC in the different conditions listed. Never-the-less, I rated it a 1 for each because I figure a kayak filled with water has got to be poor no matter where you are. We are off to search for other options - non-folking kayaks.

I took a Yakka out on the water recently and was very impressed. I had visions of it bobbing around like an inflatable dinghy, but that wasn't the case at all. It was actually stable and performed much better than I expected. Really liked the built in wheels as well and wish more sit-on-tops had these, although am not sure they would be great on a stoney beach.
