There’s less than two weeks until this year’s National Watersports Festival (Sept 5-7) which will be taking place just a stone’s throw from Sitons HQ, Hayling Island. 2014’s gathering looks bigger and better than ever with more kayaking on offer. Taster sessions and tuition, for those new to the sport, will be available right through the weekend, while new toys to play with are going to be on offer. Fun competitions (race and freestyle) are taking place across Saturday and Sunday for those already into paddling; there’s something for everyone.

A lovely bunch

If you’ve never experienced the NWF then prepare yourself for one of the biggest gatherings of saltwater enthusiasts in the country. Paddlers from kayaking and SUP, plus windsurfers and kitesurfers will rub shoulders on the water and back on dry land. Brands and stars of each sport will be floating around (literally) ready for a natter, while live evening entertainment will keep visitors bouncing into the small hours.

For those newbies thinking of taking part taster sessions will be provided by Portsmoputh Watersports. It’s advisable to reserve your place beforehand to avoid disappointment though. Camping spaces along Beachlands beach front are also going to be first come first and likely to disappear fast.

The whole NWF atmosphere is jovial and welcoming with emphasis placed firmly on the recreational enthusiast. Mass participation is encouraged with prizes available for various categories – you don’t need to podium to win!

Tips and pointers

For those who can’t make it to Hayling Island this September the whole show will be streamed live via the NWF website. This will allow everyone to be part of the fun and experience this biggest watersports event in the country.
