Flat water, a weir and rapids.

How to get there:

Follow signs for A58 Bolton, out of Bury Centre and pick up signs for Burrs Country Park.

Facilities:

Excellent on site facilities. Follow link to Burrs Official Site, below.

Hazards:

The river is fast moving and deep when in spate and should only be taken on by experienced paddlers. This stretch is used by the Activity Centre based there and therefore can get very busy on warm weekends. Damp weekdays are far better, you and your paddling pals can pretty much have the river to yourselves.

Ins and Outs:

Plenty of easily accessed Put-ins/Take Outs.

Notes:

I’ve seen plenty of open canoes and all manner of kayaks there but no sit on tops other than mine.

Overview:

A stretch of the River Irwell that is open to the public.

Location:

Burrs Activity Centre
