Fatyak’s Jayne Blundell reports from the RNLI Harbour Festival, Minehead, that took place last weekend. The RNLI Harbour Fest Minehead is a weekend of family fun, music, Fatyak Races, and the legendary Raft Race plus fantastic fireworks to close. In association with Fatyak Kayaks and The Old Ship Aground, all money raised is given to our local RNLI Station.

Let’s not forget these guys are all volunteers and are kept very busy in the Bristol Channel.

The sun shone, plenty of people got out #fatyaking in the races – the winner David Farr paddled the 1km course in 9.23 winning himself £500. The fastest female paddler was Jane Dunn who won a Fatyak Hono Body Board, plus a Fatyak Hono to Ben Pye who was the fastest youth paddler and Phil and Henry Young who were the first child/adult paddler home. Steven Dodd who won two kayaking silver medals in the LA Special Olympics in July came down and made an appearance along with his medals, which was fab.

All in all a perfect weekend for a great spot and lovely to see Minehead Harbour looking so vibrant and bustling with people. Same again next year?
