<div class="et_pb_text_inner"><p>Ever since Hey Dude Shoes came to fruition their Farty slip on has been an ever popular choice. Able to mix between beach/chill and more dressed up scenarios it’s not hard to see why. Having this upgraded to the ‘Chalet’ model, with fur lined inner, is a welcome and noteworthy addition. Now not only are Farty’s super comfy, with Hey Dude Shoes’ trademark thick rubber, patented sole technology the Farty Chalet delivers additional warmth – something we can attest to having tested extensively</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-6375" src="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/hey-dude-shoes2-1024x782.jpg" alt="Hey Dude Shoes2" width="1024" height="782" srcset="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/hey-dude-shoes2-1024x782.jpg 1024w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/hey-dude-shoes2-628x480.jpg 628w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/hey-dude-shoes2-768x587.jpg 768w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/hey-dude-shoes2-1080x825.jpg 1080w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" title="Hey Dude Shoes fur lined Farty Chalet footwear review 1"></p>
<p>Spending the majority of our time at watery locations we’re always searching for off brine footwear to fit the bill. Obviously moisture is in effect at kayak put ins, so robust our foot hammocks need to be. They also have to deliver away from the drink as well – after all it can’t all be about paddling. Sometimes we need to spend time in the wider world.</p>
<p>With their chocolate colourway the fur lined Farty Chalet we’ve been putting through paces recently easily brushed off muck and grime. It should be noted that lighter colour footwear may not do the same. For anyone into sit on kayaking or similar we’d suggest those darker tones to make sure they’re kept looking spic and span.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-6374" src="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/hey-dude-shoes1-1024x767.jpg" alt="Hey Dude Shoes1" width="1024" height="767" srcset="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/hey-dude-shoes1-1024x767.jpg 1024w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/hey-dude-shoes1-640x480.jpg 640w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/hey-dude-shoes1-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/hey-dude-shoes1-1080x809.jpg 1080w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" title="Hey Dude Shoes fur lined Farty Chalet footwear review 2"></p>
<p>Whilst certainly not waterproof Hey Dude Shoes’ Farty Chalet kicks do an admirable job at fending off moisture. You don’t want to be wading into deep water that’s for sure but for light H20 contact we found no issue. And actually if you did end up submersed then fortunately the Farty Chalet style dries quickly without tarnishing the actual aesthetic. (If you’re after something more amphibious then check out the <a href="https://www.heydudeshoes.co.uk/mens-shoes-c45/mistral-t211" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Hey Dude Shoes Mistral</a> which are designed with liquid in mind).</p>
<h2>Conclusion</h2>
<p>So, superior comfort, great looking and very practical for sit on kayakers and other water uses whilst being warm and snug Hey Dudes Shoes’ fur lined Farty Chalet models are one to look at the next time you’re in the market for some top drawer tootsie hammocks.</p></div>

				<div class="et_pb_module et_pb_text et_pb_text_1  et_pb_text_align_left et_pb_bg_layout_light">

<div class="et_pb_text_inner"><p>Now that air temperatures are dropping (even with a sublime Indian Summer in the mix as we write) it’s time to start considering your paddling attire. To state the obvious no longer is it fine to be wearing shorts and tee for paddling. To be honest even during warmer periods, with wind chill and other factors in effect, most sensible sit on kayakers will have be wearing some sort of protection – even if at a minimum.</p>
<p>It’s important to realise, however, that as much as you need to fend of the elements paddlers also need to be utilising the right gear. Enter Palm Equipment’s Atlas paddling jacket which is designed with layering in mind.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-6084" src="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/palm-atlas-jacket-2-864x1024.jpg" alt="Palm Atlas Jacket 2" width="864" height="1024" srcset="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/palm-atlas-jacket-2-864x1024.jpg 864w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/palm-atlas-jacket-2-405x480.jpg 405w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/palm-atlas-jacket-2-768x910.jpg 768w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/palm-atlas-jacket-2-1080x1280.jpg 1080w" sizes="(max-width: 864px) 100vw, 864px" title="Palm Equipment Atlas multi-sport waterproof jacket 3"></p>
<p>First off we have to say the styling and attention to detail is awesome. Once adorned you’ll notice a higher cut underneath the arms which has been factored in for paddling movements. As such there’s loads of room when extending through each paddle stroke. Deep breast placed pockets allow for all manner of paraphernalia to be carried and with the addition of YKK splash proof zippers your belongings have more chance of staying dry (if partnered with waterproof pouches for instance).</p>
<p>The rear of the Atlas jacket is tapered to ensure maximum coverage of your behind whilst the sleeves have a secure inner seal with cut aways on the outer fabric to avoid this area of the jacket getting snarled up when moving. A functional and efficient peaked hood will fend off rain and such whilst the whole garment is manufactured in 2.5 waterproof layered fabric. All in Palm deliver a top notch shell jacket that looks the biz and performs amazingly.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-6082" src="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/palm-atlas-jacket-1024x812.jpg" alt="Palm Atlas Jacket" width="1024" height="812" srcset="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/palm-atlas-jacket-1024x812.jpg 1024w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/palm-atlas-jacket-605x480.jpg 605w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/palm-atlas-jacket-768x609.jpg 768w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/palm-atlas-jacket-1080x857.jpg 1080w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/palm-atlas-jacket.jpg 2014w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" title="Palm Equipment Atlas multi-sport waterproof jacket 4"></p>
<p>Worn in tandem with base layers, fleece mid-section and possibly a third garment it’ll keep you toasty warm and dry to boot. Plus for added versatility it’s a jacket that wouldn’t look out of place should you choose to wear it away from the water. In fact, Palm state as much on their website citing the Atlas to be a top performer for MTB and dry land sports also.</p>
<h2>Conclusion</h2>
<p>Here at Sitons we love Palm Equipment’s Atlas jacket. It’s a worthy addition to any paddler’s kit box and delivers exactly what you need in terms of off season weather protection. Chuck in additional benefits of it fitting everyday scenarios whilst not afloat and you have a cost effective piece of apparel that looks the biz to boot.</p></div>

<p>At the time of writing, summer 2018 is slowly drawing to a close. A new school term beckons (groan) and the off season is just a heartbeat away. We can’t complain, however, having enjoyed one of the best summers in a long time. And fear not, as there’s still time to get away for some late paddling action – especially if you’re one who hangs up their gear for winter. Here are some of Sitons’ top kayaking getaways.</p>
<h2>The River Gannel, Cornwall</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-6032 size-large" src="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/gannell-river-crantock-beach-1024x364.jpg" alt="River Gannell Crantock Beach" width="1024" height="364" srcset="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/gannell-river-crantock-beach-1024x364.jpg 1024w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/gannell-river-crantock-beach-640x228.jpg 640w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/gannell-river-crantock-beach-768x273.jpg 768w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/gannell-river-crantock-beach-1080x384.jpg 1080w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/gannell-river-crantock-beach.jpg 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" title="Late summer kayaking getaways in the UK 5"><br />
Starting in the Cornish village of Indian Queens the River Gannel steadily turns into a tidal estuary ultimately ending up spilling into the Atlantic waters of Crantock Bay. During low tide the Gannel pretty much dries out on the lower half next to the beach. But as the flow starts to flood it’s time to hop aboard your boat and use the current to push you along the picturesque route that takes boaters right up towards Newquay. Time it right and you can use the ebb flow to race back downstream back towards your put in at the beach.</p>
<h2>Chichester Canal, West Sussex</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-6034 size-large" src="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/chichester-canal-1024x768.jpg" alt="Chichester Canal" width="1024" height="768" srcset="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/chichester-canal.jpg 1024w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/chichester-canal-640x480.jpg 640w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/chichester-canal-768x576.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" title="Late summer kayaking getaways in the UK 6"></p>
<p>Putting in right next to Chichester’s bustling centre paddlers are free to roam all the way along its 4.5m towards Birdham, a tidal spot giving access to Chichester Harbour. The canal itself is non-tidal and kayakers needn’t complete the whole route. If a mellow paddle along a beautiful stretch is what you’re after, that’s extremely sheltered from harsh weather, then so be it. Simply drift idly by listening to bird chatter and the rustle of wind in the trees. There’s a small launch fee but this goes towards the upkeep of the canal.</p>
<h2>Isle of Tiree, Hebrides</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-6033 size-large" src="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/isle-tiree-1024x683.jpg" alt="Isle of Tiree" width="1024" height="683" srcset="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/isle-tiree-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/isle-tiree-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/isle-tiree-640x427.jpg 640w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/isle-tiree-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/isle-tiree-1080x720.jpg 1080w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/isle-tiree.jpg 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" title="Late summer kayaking getaways in the UK 7"></p>
<p>For those looking to travel a bit further then the Hebridean Island of Tiree is a stunning location that offers up everything from hardcore wave action to perfect, idyllic flat water spooning. From certain parts of the UK Tiree is a mission to get to, and let’s be honest: this being Scotland the weather isn’t always guaranteed to play ball. That said, dreamy azure coloured water, white sandy beaches, a sleepy vibe with the option of sampling some local malt (if this is a preference) should have any visitors clamouring to head back.</p>
<h2>Scarborough, Yorkshire</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-6035 size-large" src="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/scarborough-1024x540.jpg" alt="Scarborough" width="1024" height="540" title="Late summer kayaking getaways in the UK 8"></p>
<p>The magic of Scarborough is its two bays that can provide shelter depending on what Mother Nature’s mood’s serving up. Paddlers can find exciting wave conditions, mellow peelers or flat water conditions suitable for all comers. The town is also a noted resort and therefore comes with all the associated trappings. Plus, for the curious, there are plenty of other spots located close by – both inland and coastal – that’ll satisfy your kayaking urges.</p>
<p>There are, of course, plenty more spots to choose from if you do some research. Take a look at our <a href="https://www.sitons.com/category/wheretokayak/">where to kayak</a> section for some more kayaking getaways. And don’t forget all these location aren’t just for summer paddling. They can be utilised at any time of year.</p>
<p>Let us know what your fave sit on kayaking spots are.</p></div>

<div class="et_pb_text_inner"><p>There’re no two ways about it: kayaking in choppy waters (at least at coastal venues) isn’t anywhere near as much fun as knifing through glassy smooth water with barely a ripple. With the current run of 2018 summer weather such as it is there are rafts of people heading to the brine for a float and paddle. Unfortunately dreams of barely ruffled surfaces are dashed upon arrival when confronted by chop and fairly stiff sea breezes.</p>
<h2>Sea breezes</h2>
<p>Sea breezes are pretty common during high season. Simply put the sun warms land masses through the morning with hot air steadily rising. Sooner or later that void created by rising air needs to be filled with something. Due to the sea being cooler than land, with a layer of colder air hovering above its surface, it’s in prime position to rush in and plug the gap – which is exactly what happens. If you add to the mix any additional gradient breeze (true wind) then this can amplify even the lightest of sea breeze airs.</p>
<h2>Dawn kayaking</h2>
<p>So what to do if you want up your chances of scoring mill pond like conditions? Simply put you’ll need to be rising and shining much earlier. In some cases pre-8am to get the best of it. But that’s OK as during summer mornings are lighter and it’s much warmer than trying to drag yourself out of the pit than in autumn or winter.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-5951" src="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/dawn-kayaking-1024x766.jpg" alt="Dawn Kayaking" width="1024" height="766" srcset="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/dawn-kayaking-1024x766.jpg 1024w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/dawn-kayaking-640x480.jpg 640w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/dawn-kayaking-768x575.jpg 768w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/dawn-kayaking-1080x808.jpg 1080w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/dawn-kayaking.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" title="Glassy kayak mornings and avoiding mid-day coastal sea breezes 9"></p>
<p>Waking and heading out at dawn’s crack is something we’re super keen on doing here at Sitons. It can be the best time of day with the hustle and bustle still a way off. Most peeps are still getting sorted for the day ahead so you can be almost guaranteed of a quiet paddle, less the other insomniacs who’ve had similar ideas.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-5952" src="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/kayaking-glassy-waters-1024x754.jpg" alt="Kayaking Glassy Waters" width="1024" height="754" srcset="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/kayaking-glassy-waters-1024x754.jpg 1024w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/kayaking-glassy-waters-640x471.jpg 640w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/kayaking-glassy-waters-768x566.jpg 768w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/kayaking-glassy-waters-1080x796.jpg 1080w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/kayaking-glassy-waters.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" title="Glassy kayak mornings and avoiding mid-day coastal sea breezes 10"></p>
<p>If you’ve also go to head for work, or have a busy day of chores ahead, then a quick early morn paddling sojourn is the perfect way to get in the zone and freshen up in readiness for those daily challenges. You’ll get to witness all manner of wildlife and nature gently waking to a new dawn. And as we’ve already said it’s the best course of action if scoring glassy waters is a must do for you.</p>
<h2>Sunset kayaking</h2>
<p>Summer 2018 will probably go down as a goody so why not make the most of each part of the day. Sunset kayaking can also be worth their weight in UV gold, don’t forget.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5954" src="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/sunset-kayaking-1.jpg" alt="Sunset Kayaking" width="1020" height="761" srcset="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/sunset-kayaking-1.jpg 1020w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/sunset-kayaking-1-640x477.jpg 640w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/sunset-kayaking-1-768x573.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1020px) 100vw, 1020px" title="Glassy kayak mornings and avoiding mid-day coastal sea breezes 11"></p>

<div class="et_pb_text_inner"><p>When you look for a holiday &#8211; especially one for you and your family &#8211; what ticks the boxes? Access to water, with kayak availability on tap; possibly alternative water going craft and guidance on how to pilot these vessels; a bit of land based fun such as tennis, maybe cycling; with possibly kid’s club facilities? All of the above? If this sounds familiar then you’ve probably been on a Neilson holiday before. If you haven’t then maybe it’s time to check out what they offer. For those looking at a spot of kayaking but with plenty of other stuff on tap then Neilson’s brand new Italian resort, Airone Beachclub, could be just the ticket.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-5811" src="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-aerial-1024x575.jpg" alt="Airone Beachclub Aerial" width="1024" height="575" srcset="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-aerial.jpg 1024w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-aerial-640x359.jpg 640w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-aerial-768x431.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" title="Neilson Holidays, Airone Beachclub Review, Calabria, Italy 12"></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-5817" src="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-kayaking-1024x770.jpg" alt="Airone Beachclub Kayaking" width="1024" height="770" srcset="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-kayaking.jpg 1024w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-kayaking-638x480.jpg 638w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-kayaking-768x578.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" title="Neilson Holidays, Airone Beachclub Review, Calabria, Italy 13"></p>
<p>Situated on Italy’s southern Calabrian coast with the Gulf of Taranto directly out front, this sun kissed part of the country is where the Italians themselves go on holiday. It’s also a place famous for chilli and liquorice. Yes, you read that right. Liquorice is a big deal here, so much so that a museum dedicated to the sweet tasting Glycyrrhiza root can be found in the medieval town of Rossano, a 30 minute drive up into the hills away from the resort. Head to Sibari (Sybaris), the closest town, and you’ll find more in the way of culture, history and archaeological sites to peruse. And there’s plenty of bars, restaurants and refreshment stops also on offer if you’re prepared to get out. You’ll need transport, however, or make use of the plentiful road/mountain bikes available to all Neilson guests. Although there’s a decent restaurant just along the beach that’s within walking distance. It’s good value as well.</p>
<h2>Airone Beachclub hotel</h2>
<p>Standing apart from surrounding villages Neilson’s Airone Beachclub hotel is a pretty in pink structure that boasts room types to suit all requirements. We stayed in the garden villas separate to the main hotel building. With a three year old and 9 month baby this was ideal as it meant we could arrange nap times and night feeds accordingly.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-5814" src="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-hotel-1024x684.jpg" alt="Airone Beachclub Hotel" width="1024" height="684" srcset="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-hotel.jpg 1024w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-hotel-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-hotel-640x428.jpg 640w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-hotel-768x513.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" title="Neilson Holidays, Airone Beachclub Review, Calabria, Italy 14"></p>
<p>Rooms are spacious with comfy beds, nicely styled bathrooms plus tea and coffee making facilities, which aren’t always available when away on holibobs (very British I know). The villas also have a decent amount of outside space for relaxing, post-paddling, with a tipple or two in the evening.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-5816" src="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-kayak-hire-1024x714.jpg" alt="Airone Beachclub Kayak Hire" width="1024" height="714" srcset="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-kayak-hire.jpg 1024w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-kayak-hire-640x446.jpg 640w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-kayak-hire-768x536.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" title="Neilson Holidays, Airone Beachclub Review, Calabria, Italy 15"></p>
<p>Elsewhere within the hotel grounds you’ll find four newly erected tennis courts, football/basketball courts, cycle shed, a well facilitated kids club area, plush piazza bar and absolutely huge pool! The open plan restaurant is serviced via the enclosed buffet with a separate area for kid’s high tea.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-5822" src="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beach-club-sea-urchins-1024x683.jpg" alt="Airone Beach Club Sea Urchins" width="1024" height="683" srcset="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beach-club-sea-urchins.jpg 1024w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beach-club-sea-urchins-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beach-club-sea-urchins-640x427.jpg 640w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beach-club-sea-urchins-768x512.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" title="Neilson Holidays, Airone Beachclub Review, Calabria, Italy 16"></p>
<p>If you have food allergies, or family members with such, as we do then have no fear as the kitchen staff can cater for this no problem. We were assigned our own waiter who looked after our littlest one and made sure he was well fed. The head chef also made frequent appearances to check all was good – we can’t praise this aspect enough.</p>
<h2>The beach (and kayaking)</h2>
<p>Flanking the beach is a large expanse of pine forest which offers a pleasant walk and access to the vast expanse of beach. Once on the sand you’ll find a bar, plenty of sun loungers and a large lifeguard tower.<br />
Although Neilson staff keep watch across the sailing area there’s the added advantage of Italian lifeguards in attendance.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-5810" src="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-1024x575.jpg" alt="Airone Beachclub" width="1024" height="575" srcset="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub.jpg 1024w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-640x359.jpg 640w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-768x431.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" title="Neilson Holidays, Airone Beachclub Review, Calabria, Italy 17"></p>
<p>To the right is where you’ll locate all those water toys waiting to be played with: boats, boards and kayaks. If you fancy getting involved in sailing, windsurfing or stand up paddle boarding Neilson beach staff will be able to give guidance, instruction and tasters for all sports. Kayaks are supplied by former Perception Kayaks Europe, now Wave Sport. The Scooter and tandem Gemini is what’ll be getting you afloat. Paddles are basic but do the job fine.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-5812" src="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-beach-1024x683.jpg" alt="Airone Beachclub Beach" width="1024" height="683" srcset="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-beach.jpg 1024w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-beach-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-beach-640x427.jpg 640w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-beach-768x512.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" title="Neilson Holidays, Airone Beachclub Review, Calabria, Italy 18"></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-5815" src="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-kayak-family-1024x683.jpg" alt="Airone Beachclub Kayak Family" width="1024" height="683" srcset="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-kayak-family.jpg 1024w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-kayak-family-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-kayak-family-640x427.jpg 640w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-kayak-family-768x512.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" title="Neilson Holidays, Airone Beachclub Review, Calabria, Italy 19"></p>
<p>In terms of what’s available for investigation the paddling area is pretty large, although there’s not a huge amount of variety in terms of touring. As the season moves forward the beach team will be putting on longer excursions for guests to make use of. What Airone is great for, however, is anyone taking their first strokes in a kayak or getting your offspring into the sport.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-5821" src="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-kayak-wavesport-1024x683.jpg" alt="Airone Beachclub Kayak Wavesport" width="1024" height="683" srcset="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-kayak-wavesport.jpg 1024w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-kayak-wavesport-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-kayak-wavesport-640x427.jpg 640w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-kayak-wavesport-768x512.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" title="Neilson Holidays, Airone Beachclub Review, Calabria, Italy 20"></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-5823" src="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-SUP-kid-683x1024.jpg" alt="Airone Beachclub Sup Kid" width="683" height="1024" title="Neilson Holidays, Airone Beachclub Review, Calabria, Italy 21"></p>
<p>With offshore winds, or zero breeze, the brine remains pancake flat and perfect for a dabble with a paddle. If the breeze should pick up, however, then there are two types of scenario. Offshore winds keep things flat inside whereas venturing farther out will require a slog back into the blow, which can be great for fitness. During our stay we ended with a number of onshore days with swell picking up rapidly. This gives fun lumps/waves to play on if confident. To the left of the launch is a shallower sand bar area where sucky swell jacks up and provides the best surf. If you’ve never had any experience in waves these conditions, should you get the same, give a nice intro to the world of surf sliding/paddling.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-5819" src="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-kayaking-surf-1024x720.jpg" alt="Airone Beachclub Kayaking Surf" width="1024" height="720" srcset="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-kayaking-surf.jpg 1024w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-kayaking-surf-640x450.jpg 640w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-kayaking-surf-768x540.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" title="Neilson Holidays, Airone Beachclub Review, Calabria, Italy 22"></p>
<h2>Other stuff</h2>
<p>Neilson’s Airone Beachclub is one for the multi-activist. For sure you can clock up the paddling miles but if you only stick at this then you’ll be missing out. With so much other ‘entertainment’ on offer it’d be a shame not try one of the other sports, on land or water.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5824" src="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-tennis-green.jpg" alt="Airone Beachclub Tennis Green" width="634" height="982" srcset="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-tennis-green.jpg 634w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/airone-beachclub-tennis-green-310x480.jpg 310w" sizes="(max-width: 634px) 100vw, 634px" title="Neilson Holidays, Airone Beachclub Review, Calabria, Italy 23"><br />

<div class="et_pb_text_inner"><p>The Pyranha Surf Jet arrived in pure ‘naked’ form. As in the boat’s devoid of clutter boasting only a retractable skeg – minimalist it sure is! That’s not to say you can’t customise and outfit the boat, you can in fact. For this test, however, we went for a float as is.</p>
<p>Carting it to and from the put in is a little unusual as there aren’t any grab handles. Instead there’s an indent hand hold inside the cockpit, but only on one side. There are fixture and fitting points which we’d suggest paddlers make use of as utilising the single hold isn’t the most efficient when carrying. You may also want to add a seat for additional comfort once on the brine and thigh straps for improved handling and control in the surf.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5665" src="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/pyranha-surf-jet-siton.jpg" alt="pyranha surf jet siton" width="1000" height="750" srcset="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/pyranha-surf-jet-siton.jpg 1000w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/pyranha-surf-jet-siton-640x480.jpg 640w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/pyranha-surf-jet-siton-768x576.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" title="Pyranha Surf Jet 305 Kayak Review 25"></p>
<p>Jumping aboard and although it’s a low volume boat it still boasts a fair amount of stability – the secondary stability is actually good and should therefore be trusted. Anxious paddlers may require a few flat water runs to get used to it but all in it’s a well mannered sit on top. If you really want a planted ride then drop the skeg which sees the Surf Jet turn into a completely different animal. Directional, with improved tracking, the Surf Jet delivers a pleasant enough ride in this guise with even some flat water paddling opening up, showing there’s a degree of versatility in the Surf Jet.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-5663" src="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/pyranha-surf-jet-1024x768.jpg" alt="pyranha surf jet" width="1024" height="768" srcset="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/pyranha-surf-jet-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/pyranha-surf-jet-640x480.jpg 640w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/pyranha-surf-jet-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/pyranha-surf-jet-1080x810.jpg 1080w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/pyranha-surf-jet.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" title="Pyranha Surf Jet 305 Kayak Review 26"></p>
<p>In wave mode the gunny shape allows for early drop ins, ensuring a long ride. Setting a rail is easy enough although it doesn’t bite quite as hard as some surf orientated sitons we’ve used in the past. With the skeg once again down it locks into the wave’s pocket and drives off the bottom, arcing progressively back up to the lip. Just remember to keep the skeg slot grit and mud free for easy retraction.</p>

<h2>Conclusion</h2>
<p>All in the Pyranha Surf Jet is a fun, accessible and playful surf sit on top that while aimed firmly at wave environments can straddle flatter water venues if required. Heavy weights will be surprised at the stability and get used to piloting in a short amount of time. Lighter riders will discover a throw about hull that’ll keep smiles wide when playing in the lumpy stuff. It’d also make a good SOT for kids and has a decent price point.</p></div>

<div class="et_pb_text_inner"><h2>Kayak Disciplines &#8211; different (paddle) strokes for different folks&#8230;</h2>
<p>One of the reasons that kayaking is such a great water sport is the sheer diversity that it offers. Many people believe that sitting in or on a plastic craft and meandering along a tranquil stretch of water is the pinnacle of ‘yaking. For some, that may be the case; but once you have mastered the basics, it needn’t stop there! There are plenty of routes you can take. Here’s a short summary of the wide range of kayak disciplines on offer.</p>
<h2>Touring/adventure paddling</h2>
<p>Kayaking is described by historians as one the first forms of transport that human beings developed. Had it not been for early forms of ‘yaking then certain parts of our world would possibly still be undiscovered. It is this heritage, embedded deep within our subconscious, that makes us want to jump in or on a floating craft and paddle our way to far off destinations. Who knows what we may find and what is around the next bend in the river or headland…? Packing your tent and camping gear, planning your route and making sure you have enough provisions are all exciting and only serve to heighten the anticipation of the journey. This form of paddling is one of the easiest disciplines to participate in, as the only skills required are those of being able to paddle in a straight line, being able to right your craft should it capsize and being aware and taking adequate safety precautions.</p>
<h2>Sea kayaking</h2>
<p>Sea kayaking is extremely similar to that of touring – the only difference is that you are doing your exploring while paddling on the open sea. This form of ‘yaking brings with it a whole host of new challenges, such as understanding tides and being able to interpret weather information to avoid ending up in trouble. Should you want to get into this part of the sport there may be an additional cost, as the equipment needed to really do justice to the art is quite specialist. With water being a moving expanse of mass, the boats are designed as long and pointy vessels that are ideal for cutting through chop and currents. This means that your physical exertion is kept to a minimum. Understanding the sea is key to getting the most out of this discipline, as well as being able to accurately ride ocean swells and navigate heavily tidal waters.</p>
<h2>Surf kayaking</h2>
<p>Turn up at any coastal venue that has breaking swell and chances are you will see someone out on or in their kayak. Surf kayaking exploded in popularity a few years ago due to the fact that you don’t have to learn to get to your feet like you do with conventional surfing. Having the blade in your hands also helps with getting out beyond the white water, catching waves and staying on them. This extra form of propulsion means that ‘surfing’ is so much easier and technically less demanding than doing so on a board. The only thing to keep in mind is the importance of understanding surf etiquette and trying not to become a hazard to other water users.</p>
<h2>White water paddling/Play boating</h2>
<p>A kayak lends itself perfectly to playing about on rivers. Rapids and weirs all provide immense amounts of fun for paddlers who are so inclined. Sit on kayaks can be used in this environment as well, although there is a limit as to just how fast and fierce a river can be paddled due to the open cockpit nature of your craft. Closed cockpit kayaks are usually favoured for play boating, which involves doing tricks and spins, as they are easy to roll and highly manoeuvrable whereas sit on kayaks are not. That’s not to say that sit ons cannot be used in whitewater environments – it may just be that you have to pick your days carefully and if you do go for a session on a moving river then invest in straps to keep you as locked into the boat as possible.</p>
<h2>Marathon paddling</h2>
<p>Marathon paddling is probably one of the most physically demanding sports you can do. Covering mammoth distances – for fun – may not seem like everyone’s cup of tea; nevertheless, there are large numbers of paddlers that indulge in this aspect of the sport on a regular basis. It is a fantastic way to burn calories and develop fitness, and any form of kayak can be used for this discipline.</p>
<h2>Slalom/racing</h2>
<p>If you are aiming for world domination or Olympic success, then a sit on kayak will probably not take you to the upper echelons of slalom and racing. But if you fancy having a crack at moderate, friendly competition by hucking yourself through control gates then by all means, a sit on ‘yak will serve the purpose. Plenty of clubs are dotted throughout the UK and the world that offer the chance for friendly competition and camaraderie with like-minded individuals.</p></div>

If you appreciate authentic Italian culture, cuisine – all with typical Med flair – fabulous locations and vistas (from a boat or land) then it’s definitely a place for you.</p>
<p>Neilson Holidays opened their Baia dei Mori (Budoni) resort in 2017 and we were fortunate enough to visit before the majority of guests descended. We were given the five star treatment and allowed to play with all the brand new, latest watersports equipment – included the newly rebranded Perception Scooter now the Wave Sport Scooter.</p>
<p>With a whole fleet of kayaks, paddle boards, dinghies, windsurfing equipment, mountain bikes and catamarans there’s plenty to get involved with.</p>
<h2>HOW TO GET THERE:</h2>
<p>Fly into Olbia from either Heathrow or Bristol. It’s then a 45 minute transfer by coach to the actual resort. Car hire is available but to be honest we’d recommended using the provided transfer as it’s slightly less hassle to begin with. You can always sort car rental later.</p>

<p>Neilson’s Baia de Mori hotel was newly refurbished for 2017 and as such the whole complex is pristine. Accommodation comes as garden style villas which have a variety of configurations to suit. There’s a pool bar/restaurant, main dining area and restaurant, spa and well being area plus those all important beach toys to play with. Tennis, mountain biking and kids clubs are also available. It’s also possible to kitesurf (offsite) for a small supplement.</p>
<h2>HAZARDS:</h2>
<p>From a kayaking point of view there’s very little in the way of hazards. Rocks flank the beach to the right, which are worth steering clear of if you’re an anxious paddler. Confident kayakers, however, are free to investigate the rocky shoreline here.</p>
<p>Seaweed (thick seaweed at that!) had been washed up on the beach during our visit. This isn’t so much a hazard but it is thick enough to end up sinking in during launching so worth noting.</p>
<p>Baia dei Mori does get breezy – usually around late morning. The wind blows in a cross offshore direction so worth keeping an eye on as windy conditions could make getting back to the beach tricky. That said there are plenty of rescue boats on hand should you need a lift. It’s also worth watching out for other watercraft as some pilots aren’t the most experienced.</p>
<h2>INS AND OUTS:</h2>
<p>The put in is straight out front as you hit the beach. Neilson have a designated sailing area which is marked by buoys dropped in the drink offshore. There’s plenty of space though to roam free in your kayak.</p>
<h2>NOTES:</h2>
<p>If you’re of a culinary bent then the surrounding restaurants in the area offer superb dining. Authentic Italian cuisine, cooked in a home style manner with hearty potions are typically what you’ll discover. Although we didn’t investigate there are no doubt even more options further afield should you choose to have a look/see.</p>
<h2>OVERVIEW:</h2>
<p>Baia dei Mori, part of Budoni Village, is a stunning and tranquil corner of Sardinia. With azure blue, shallow water and Neilson’s high end watersports club facilities on hand you’ll be spoilt for choice in terms of what activities you can get involved with – not just kayaking. Tuition is offered, free of charge, plus all the necessary tools to have you up and riding whatever craft you take out.</p>
<p>The bay itself is perfect for cruising about aboard a sit on top and it’s also a cracking place to introduce your offspring to the joys of paddling. If they join in with kids club then they’ll be taken on the water as standard anyway.</p>
<p>And don’t forget the exquisite food which we’ve already mentioned. It’s pretty good at the hotel itself but get out beyond the confines and you’ll discover some amazing Italian eating.</p></div>

<div class="et_pb_text_inner"><p>Due to the Dagger Kaos Molten 10.2 versatility as a sit on top kayak we thought it appropriate to publish a two part review about both its flat water performance and wave prowess. With part one having already been done here’s part two…</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-large wp-image-5387" src="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/dagger-kaos-fins-1024x768.jpg" alt="Dagger Kaos" width="1024" height="768" srcset="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/dagger-kaos-fins-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/dagger-kaos-fins-640x480.jpg 640w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/dagger-kaos-fins-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/dagger-kaos-fins-1080x810.jpg 1080w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" title="Dagger Kaos Molten 10.2 kayak review part 2 - wave performance 28"></p>
<p>The main difference between using the Kaos 10.2 in waves is the addition of the supplied thruster fins. As a 2+1 set up the character of the Kaos is changed dramatically. Although we hasten to add that the boat will work just fine without these screwed in, and actually deliver a different style of riding. If you favour flat spins and slides, for instance, then don’t plug in.</p>
<p>With the fins securely fitted the instant improvement is the Kaos’s tracking. You won’t need to apply as many corrective strokes as you do when the fins are off. This is great for punching out through white water and oncoming swell as it means focus can be on keeping the hammer down and powering through to the outside.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-5385" src="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/dagger-kaos5-1024x768.jpg" alt="Dagger Kaos" width="1024" height="768" title="Dagger Kaos Molten 10.2 kayak review part 2 - wave performance 29"></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-5381" src="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/dagger-kaos1-1024x671.jpg" alt="Dagger Kaos" width="1024" height="671" title="Dagger Kaos Molten 10.2 kayak review part 2 - wave performance 30"></p>
<p>Once in position riders can focus on their wave of choice and making the drop. Again, those fins biting and the Kaos’s improved tracking keeping the boat straight and true as you pick up your wave.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-5384" src="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/dagger-kaos4-1024x696.jpg" alt="Dagger Kaos" width="1024" height="696" title="Dagger Kaos Molten 10.2 kayak review part 2 - wave performance 31"></p>
<p>Dropping down the face those fins dig in once again as you lean the boat onto to its side to engage the rail. Without and there’s a degree of side slip whereas the skegs promote drive off the bottom and help slingshot paddlers back to the lip. Re-directs are then efficient with pro-active weight transfer from rail to rail.</p>
<p>Zooming down the line it’s easy to generate speed and outrun pitching lips. Rounding white water is efficient and for those with skill blowing the tail out is doable. It’s not quite as agile as closed cockpit, carbon or glass surf kayaks but it’s pretty near. As such any wave head, of a sit down bent, will enjoy getting stuck in with the Kaso 10.2.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-5382" src="https://www.sitons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/dagger-kaos2-1024x730.jpg" alt="Dagger Kaos " width="1024" height="730" title="Dagger Kaos Molten 10.2 kayak review part 2 - wave performance 32"></p>
<h2>Conclusion</h2>
<p>A multi-faceted wave tool, that’s tunable by inserting or removing the included fins, Dagger’s Kaos 10.2 Molten is a fulfilling surf sled that copes well with either small or bigger surf. Offering a direct and drivable feel with all three skegs attached it draws fluid lines on open wave faces. Remove them and you get a spinny and playful machine with a different dynamic to that of the former. And then of course, as is described in part one of this review series, there’s a decent element of versatile flat water performance to be made use of.</p>
