Ideal easy paddling location for beginners upwards. Slow running river with plenty of wildlife about like ducks, swans and the odd Kingfisher.

How to get there:

From Glastonbury, pick up signs to Meare, Wedmore & Cheddar. After going through Meare, drive another mile or so and enter Westhay. Stay on the main road, and after going past the shop on the right, ‘The Bird in Hand’ pub is one right. Opposite is a layby where you can park, get over the gate and into the water at an animal drinking place.

Facilities:

Shop within 100 yards and pub within 50 yards of where you enter/exit the water. You can park in the layby or the pub car park (Ask first?). Once on the water, there are a few places to get out and rest or picnic etc, but you’d have to go a fair way to reach somewhere else! There are other villages along the river, but they’re well spread, so take a drink along!

Hazards:

There no hazards on this water, as it is a very slow running river, and ideal for beginners/

Ins and Outs:

Easy put in/take out at the animal drinking place within 20-30 yards of parking your car.

Overview:

Several good places to enter. An easy one is at Westhay on the road to Wedmore from Glastonbury. Enter BA6 then search for it on any Maps site. Opposite the ‘Bird in Hand’ pub.
